
Location: Wellington Eye Clinic, Level 2, Suite 36, Beacon Hall, Beacon Court, Sandyford, Dublin 18. (Parking space is provided by the clinic)

Working hours: Part time, 22 hours 30 minutes per week. 8-hour shifts with 30-minute lunch break. Working hours are negotiable. (3 days per week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday or combination of two of these + Saturday, or 5 mornings may be possible). The Clinic is closed on Bank Holidays.
Annual leave: 13.5 days Annual Leave + 1 day of leave for birthday.
Contract: 1 year
Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications

The Wellington Eye Clinic was established in 1980. It is situated on the Beacon Hospital campus since 2006 and owned by Medical Director Mr Arthur Cummings. The clinic offers a wide range of refractive and intraocular procedures which include LASIK, LASEK, PRK, Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), Crosslinking (CXL), Cataract and Custom Lens Replacement (CLR) procedures as well as General Ophthalmology. The clinic has state of the art technology for clinical support for general ophthalmology including glaucoma and medical retina. The clinic is very well supported by a large administrative, optometric, nursing and ophthalmic technician team.
Description of the role:
As a busy refractive practice, the surgeons at the Wellington Eye Clinic require the support of a multidisciplinary team to clinically assess our refractive and general ophthalmology patients. Appointment types include preoperative evaluations, post operative appointments, general ophthalmology appointments and surgical appointments.
As a clinical optometrist, duties would be divided into three subcategories;
- Clinical duties and responsibilities
- Working as part of the optometry team to advise on ophthalmic diagnostic testing on patients as part of clinical work ups for consultations at the Clinic.
- Working as part of the optometry team to work up new patients for refractive surgery to be reviewed at a later date by the consultant,
- Reviewing patients for post-operative visits, and on-going aftercare
- Theatre duties and responsibilities
- Management of patients on the day of surgery (consent discussion, medication management, counselling on postoperative instructions, completion of slit lamp examinations as part of discharging patients)
- Administrative duties and responsibilities
- Answering patient queries via phone call/ email
- Reverting to patient with Doctor’s advice
- Completing discharge letters to referring doctor and community optometrists
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Optometry
- Active CORU registration
- Professional indemnity insurance
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong service ethic
- Refractive surgery experience is an advantage though not essential
