Role of Optometry Ireland

• Represent members interests by monitoring developments in the profession and planning, advising and responding as appropriate
• Represent the voice of the profession to third parties – Government, industry, public, other professions etc.
• Represent the profession at international level by participation in ECOO (European Council of Optometry & Optics),  WCO (World Council of Optometry) and the Six Nations amongst others
• Negotiate on behalf of the profession to maximise its contribution to public healthcare
• Conduct research and planning future activities to keep the profession at the front of international best practice
• Encourage high standards of service in the profession
• Provide and facilitate Continuing Professional Development
• Provide other member services including news and information updates, webinars, and lectures via the website
• Raising public awareness of good eye-health and best model of service.
